Navy Pier Pride Returns for Fifth Annual Live Daylong Celebration of Equality and Love

CHICAGO – Navy Pier, Chicago’s iconic lakefront destination, welcomes all to celebrate Pride Month in person at the People’s Pier for the fifth consecutive year of Navy Pier Pride. On Saturday, June 27 from 1 – 10 p.m., celebrate equality, love and the LGBTQ+ community at the newly-reopened People’s Pier. This free and safe daylong celebration will include scheduled live musical performances, resources from community partners and organizations, and Pride-themed public art for enjoyment, along with new operational measures to prioritize the health, safety and well-being of its guests, staff and partners, including mandated face coverings at all times.

Live Music
Throughout the event, guests will enjoy live music in the Miller Lite Beer Garden with a finale performance from Radio Gagaas well as DJ performances at the Wave Wall Performance Platform, for an opportunity to join together and find moments of joy through music and dance. Additionally, Wave Wall Wax, Navy Pier’s free, live weekly DJ series will feature DJ Mwelwa on Saturday, June 27 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Wave Wall Performance Platform for more arts and cultural programming.

On-site Resources

TaskForce Prevention and Community Services and The Potocsnak Family Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine will be on-site to share information and resources about their programs supporting youth across Chicago from 1 – 5 p.m. There will also be vogueing at 2, 3 and 4 p.m. with young adults and teens from the TaskForce Prevention and Community Services at the Wave Wall Platform.

Public Art
Navy Pier will be displaying four large colorful LGBTQ Pride banners from queer, Chicago-born artist Sam Kirk as part of her series “Pride,” which has murals displayed at both Navy Pier and The Magnificent Mile. The banners will be located in the Peoples Energy Welcome Pavilion and Fifth Third Bank Family Pavilion and portray people of different ages, races and genders in bright and colorful ways.

Navy Pier Pride is a part of the nonprofit destination’s ongoing commitment to offer guests free, one-of-a kind arts and cultural programming, designed to inspire, educate and connect communities across the city and globe. Please note, all events and programs are subject to change.

Since commencing its phased reopening on June 10, Navy Pier has prioritized stringent cleaning measures and safety practices to support the health and wellness of those at the Pier. Measures include multiple layers of stringent cleaning and disinfecting, preparing and equipping employees with appropriate resources, new physical distancing practices, standard CDC and Chicago Public Health guidelines, and more.

Guests must always bring and wear a face mask while visiting Navy Pier and try to maintain a six feet distance between individuals who are not from the same household. Guests should also wash hands regularly and/or utilize the nearly 80 hand sanitizers provided throughout the Pier. Those who are sick, have COVID-19 symptoms or diagnosis, or have been exposed to someone with symptoms or diagnosis within the last 14 days should stay home or visit their healthcare provider.

Navy Pier’s reopening framework aligns with Phases 3, 4 and 5 of the State of Illinois’ “Restore Illinois” plan and City of Chicago’s “Protecting Chicago” outline, as well as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.
